The Marlon pass to Ganz started a little debate over "holding back your trick plays for select opponents" or to put the play on film so all teams must prepare. Same said for all the option we ran against NNstate.
For the record, I prefer to get the trip plays out there.
Here is why, because the difference between Lucky for 4 yards on a toss sweep and 14 CAN be as little as a single hesitation step by a Linebacker or the safety looking over his shoulder to see if someone snuck behind him.
I want every defender we play to not be able to completely sell out on a punt or FG block because he's also got coverage responsibilities on a fake. I want every defender to have to watch Ganz in the backfield after the handoff or pitch to see if he's headed downfield.
I understand the element of surprise, but I'd rather get a couple more long runs in Every Game because of a hesitant defense, even if it costs us the element of surprise on one, two, three plays per season.
Plus, yes, it's a recruting tool to show a kid that we let Defensive Ends catch TD passes, etc..
